So I have done it, I have joined the Twitterati. Still not entirely convinced its worthwhile, but have been being bullied about it by my media savvy colleagues for so long that I have finally caved under the peer pressure. The only thing I got really excited about was getting to use the gorgeous Poppy wallpaper/textile design my friend Nikki Pinder created as my Twitter background- check it out and follow me here. Thanks Nikki!- you can see more of her artwork here.
This is quite the menagerie of posts, starting with one of my favourite venues, the Horse Hospital in East London. The exhibition PULP opens there today, featuring work by some of my favourite artists, including Rob Ryan, Stu Mead and the amazing Laurie Lipton; (see Haunted Dolls' House above). A friend of mine in San Francisco introduced me to her friend Laurie's work when I stayed with her this summer, and its amazing; incredibly dark and sometimes shocking, have a look at her site. She's based in Liverpool, so its great to get the chance to see her work here in London. As well as showing at Pulp, Rob Ryan will also be opening his shop Ryanytown from 5pm-9pm on Wednesday evenings throughout December as part of the Columbia road Christmas Wednesdays, so pop along for and get some great presents, or this awesome tape to jazz up your gift wrapping.
Last night Naomi and I ran a little Vintage Secret stall at the Pushing Pussy Records Christmas Extravaganza, alongside some gorgeous handmade fascinators from Jasmine Teacup and really cute jewellery by Frangipane Honey. Tonight Pushing Pussy's band The Palpitations are running a night at The Rest is Noise with the BBC's Andrew Weatherall- its free, do pop along if you can, Danielle has an amazing voice and will be wearing a truly awesome Vintage Secret jumpsuit. To see Dani in the photoshoot I styled last month, click here. Dani's also been doing a podcast with Billy Reeves, 'Nostalgia of the Future' about girl singers before the Beatles- join the party here.
Artist Tinsel Edwards, one of the founders of Pushing Pussy Records, is having a Christmas Open Studio on the 11th,12th and 13th- with music from another PPR fave, Squirrel Skin Slippers- fronted, coincidentally, by the lady behind Frangipane Honey jewellery. Its such a small world! There'll be art for sale, as well as mulled wine and mince pies, so come along!
Follow the Vintage Secret blog to hear news about us and the next White Blackbird party in January...very exciting, though brain does still hurt a bit when thinking about 2010 dates..two tickets left for our Tart event this month, on the 12th- amazing goodie bags worth more than the ticket price plus a palm-reader should make it even more successful than last month's.January's date all sold out, so might be your last chance for a while.Hope to see you somewhere soon x
