For years now, one of my very favourite online shops has been The Shop Floor Project. Not only is it a gorgeous website, they stock truly original pieces by really talented designers and craftspeople, including some wallpaper designs that make be go a bit weak at the knees. So I am almost beside myself to discover that the mother/daughter duo behind the site have launched a new project; The Secret Arcade. Again, much of the beauty of the site comes from its olde worldy aesthetic; presented as an actual shopping arcade 'based on the Parisian shopping arcades from the 19th century' with 'real' shop windows for you to browse. Is this the future of online shopping? And shopping in general? More projects like Wolf and Badger that curate different selections of designers every season? Denise and Samantha created The Secret Arcade site to give independent e-tailers a platform from which to exhibit their wares and 'shine a spotlight on these special shops'.
I've already discovered a wealth of gems on the site, yet more fantastic wallpaper of the erotic variety by Louise Body.
Dreamy homeware from Ghost Furniture; described as the original upcycle store- 'flea market gone fabulous'.
More vintage finds from Willow and Stone like these tiny antique bottles.
Delicate beaded jewellery from Clara Francis. Other categories on the site include fashion and accessories, children, perfume and beauty as well as books, prints and art. Definitely one to bookmark for Christmas shopping. And I hear that the site will also be running events later in the year. Follow their blog to keep up with their news.
