London Fashion Week A/W 2012 Trends: Black Lace

Ashley Isham (lomography shot on a Diana F)

Whilst the two trends I've mentioned so far for A/W 2012 are both quite conservative (Tradition and Princess), both have benefited from a bit of sexing up with the addition of some black lace, tulle and veiling. Even outside of London, Ulyana Sergeenko's new lookbook featured several seemingly innocent floral print numbers, completely transformed by the addition of a layer of sheer, black netting; instant sex appeal.

Likewise Corrie Nielson's classic tartans and structured tailoring took on an air of sensuality and mystery when swathed in black veils and sheer blouses.

Bora Aksu and Corrie Nielson also opted for a slightly less subtle take on the trend, with 'face lace' fast emerging as the statement accessory of the season. Personally, I can rarely be bothered even to stick on fake eyelashes, let alone something that needs securing all over my face, so I don't think this is a look I'll be adopting. I do think it's really striking for the catwalk however, and we'll probably see it in a good few editorials, adverts and promo shots throughout the year.

Inbar Spector A/W 2012

There are few designers around whose creations are sensational enough to see them being touted as a contender for McQueen's crown-but one of them is the wonderful Inbar Spector. Her A/W 2012 show was beautifully complemented by Lara Jensen's exquisite face jewellery.Styling by Hope von Joel.

Inbar's dresses have recently been seen on a number of celebrity clients, from Gabby Young who I style( we've been lucky enough to work with Inbar for a couple of years now) to Erin O Connor and Shingai from The Noisettes, who attended the show in one of Inbar's creations! I actually recently styled a shoot for photographer Claire Huish, which I'll post here when it's published because we used this same dress!

And here are some photographs I took on my new lomography Diana F. Still getting to grips with it, but loving the results. They're particularly good for accentuating the fabulous textures in Inbar's designs- the shimmering, lazer-cut metallics combined with soft, tulles that seem to float down the catwalk of their own accord.

London Fashion Week A/W 2012 Trends: Princess

One influence I noticed in many collections this season was the Kate Middleton effect- since the Duchess has been honing her own contemporary princess style, designers are rushing to catch up by creating demure, tailored pieces with military and regal influences. Here are a few of my favourite picks for a princess. (Kate did in fact wear Orla Kiely last week on a visit to schools in Oxford)

London Fashion Week A/W 2012 Trends: Tradition

With the big British heritage brands like Burberry and Mulberry, you can always expect to see some traditional fabrics on the LFW catwalks, but this season even the most youthful, up and coming designers embraced the old fashioned- with tweeds, dogtooths and tartans all over the collections. If you're nervous about wearing print- one of the other big trends- then these sort of fabrics are a less daunting way of adding something to your wardrobe to break up block colours.

Ulyana Sergeenko Ready to wear 2012

Please forgive me for briefly veering away from London Fashion Week, but I must share with you the ready-to-wear 2012 collection from one of my all time favourite designers, Ulyana Sergeenko. Her designs are actually as close to flawless as any collection could be for me- stunning vintage inspired silhouettes, beautiful floral prints combined with sexy black lace, fantastic accessories (see the shoes in her last lookbook) and incredibly hot models with with out of this world figures.Ulyana wears her designs around the global fashion week scene herself and is the epitomy of timeless style and glamour. Sorry to be so gushy, but I really, really like her stuff. I'll let you just have a look now.
